Review: Palazzo, Bangsar Telawi

Telawi has seen a steady stream of new establishments over the past few years, only the best remaining in the saturated food district of Bangsar.

Palazzo is yet another new restaurant in the Telawi area targeting its more affluent clientele.

Don't be put off by the chi chi interior. Prices are still affordable albeit on the higher side over here.

Surely, the dessert options alone should tempt you to step into this place to try their food. It certainly caught my attention.

I decided to break away from clean eating and indulge in an eggy and cheesy carbonara (RM30) with a generous amount of bacon and chives. While I am normally more inclined to prefer the localised cream version, this reminded me very much of the carbonara I had in Rome and definitely commands more authenticity than others I've tried in KL.

The best friend went with the only other pasta dish on their dinner menu - the spaghetti with burrata cheese and caramelised tomato (RM33). Like I mentioned before, prices can be a little steep but portions are generous enough to justify them. Though this dish was a bit muted after having a taste of the carbonara, the cheese and caramelised tomato went very well together. It's also served in a really cute stone bowl, as pictured, making its presentation quite unique for an Italian dish.

One may be overwhelmed with the sheer amount of choice given for desserts but we went with three mignons (mini cakes priced at RM6.80 each). Macarons were RM7.80, if memory serves. We balanced out a pure chocolate cake with one vanilla and mascarpone cheese (the green one) and a fruitier one with strawberries and lime (the red one).

The restaurant also serves tapas which you can choose from the tapas bar. However, prices for very small dishes (good for two at most) are north of RM15.

There is also a bread section which customers can walk up to directly to take away freshly baked pastries. The concept is quite similar to its neighbouring Yeast Bistro.

However, service is impeccable. Hopefully I shall return soon with more dining companions.
