Review: Le Midi, Bangsar Shopping Centre

Matt took me to Le Midi for my birthday dinner last night. It was the first time we decided to break away from our usual Pampas Reserve dinner. He picked it for the view and good reviews about the steak. The reviews were not wrong. We both enjoyed our steaks immensely. The risotto was amazing and desserts were up to standard. I definitely enjoyed my birthday dinner! Wild mushroom risotto (RM39). 200gm tenderloin, medium rare (RM138++) Hot chocolate volcano cake (RM29). Clas

Review: Mercat Barcelona Gastrobar, Bangsar

I fell in love with Spanish food when I visited Mallorca and Barcelona late last year. Since then, I have not had Spanish food in fear of disappointment. Taking a leap with Mercat being the first Spanish place I've tried since coming back, I knew from the first bite that it was not a mistake. But it's a pity I couldn't try more dishes... (I must note that the last good Spanish meal I had in Malaysia was in Langkawi - Tapaz.) The facade of the restaurant, located just opposite

Review: Thirty8, Grand Hyatt hotel

If there are two words I love more than "free food", they are "chocolate buffet", which is what Thirty8 at Grand Hyatt offers, on top of a stunning view of downtown KL. The chocolate buffet is RM78++ per head with plenty of chocolatey options. Chocolate opera cake, part of the buffet Also part of the buffet... The leather bound menus... ...all you can eat chocolate macarons? or blocks of Thirty8 chocolate pieces? perhaps, more macarons? or even a whole chocolate cake! Otherwi

Review: The Grumpy Cyclist

I am so glad I started this website. It has certainly broadened my horizons when it comes to food (and forced me to go out more to sample new food). So recently I tried The Grumpy Cyclist, a small cafe in TTDI. I think one of the main reasons why I never liked going to TTDI is because of the lack of parking. But I was lucky enough to get one this time. Though it was around lunch time, I didn't really feel like having a heavy meal so I went with apple cinnamon pancakes and Mat

Review: Marvellous Egg Co. (in collaboration with

So, between my full-time job as a financial journalist, running a food page, helping out in a charity organisation and keeping fit, I've got my hands pretty tied. This means I don't always have time to go out and try new food to review. Thankfully, Malaysia has recently been blessed with a service like, which is an errand-running service. They do anything from picking up your dry cleaning to buying your groceries and even sending your car for a wash, if you want. All

Review: Porto Romano, Mont Kiara

It's always good to treat yourself to a meal sometimes. Porto Romano is a great place to do that! The portions are sufficient, prices are reasonable (some may say steep, but for the quality and quantity, it's worth every penny) and service is on point. I haven't found many risotto dishes in Malaysia I particularly enjoy but I can say Porto Romano makes a mean beef pastrami risotto. Of course, one must have pasta in an Italian establishment and indeed, pasta is fresh and chock

Review: The Social, Publika

I've heard people call this place "The Social 88". I didn't know whether to laugh or cry. I'm pretty sure the two "8"s are in fact, a butterfly... Like "The Social Butterfly". That makes more sense than 88... Either way, I don't have much to say about this place other than the food is rather average (especially because of its exorbitant prices). Most of the food came tasteless but props to the chefs for presentation, I suppose. It was a big group dinner so we tried all the sh

Review: Podgy & The Banker

The popular breakfast haunt has been around for quite a while now and I have visited the cafe a couple of times before. Today, I had a quick breakfast there with my dad. It reminded me that it is a place of simple fare and very friendly waitstaff. I had the poached eggs with spinach and bread while my dad ordered the omelette. Overall, it is an affordable breakfast joint. But be warned that the portions tend to come small, even for Malaysian standards. Podgy & The Banker 2,

Review: Ante Kitchen & Bar

Ante at Publika has been my favourite restaurant for about two years now. I have seen their menu changed many times now and even their chefs. But each time, the food gets better, something uncommon with many F&B places. One of my favourites from the latest menu is the cha siu curry cream pasta as pictures below. It's the epitome of East meets West. Another dish I always enjoy at Ante is their signature pork steak. They've recently changed the sauce to a gravy as shown below.
