The Reading Room, Tanjong Pagar

If lounging at a café with a cuppa joe and novel in hand sounds like a page out of your book, The Reading Room (TRR) should be in your must-visit list of cafés in Singapore. Famed for being a scene shot in Crazy Rich Asians, the hipster-idyllic café is as its name suggests is tiered to the brim with books and eclectic vintage artefacts – a perfect haunt for bookworms and bohemians alike. We were invited by the lovely Quandoo tribe and eagerly took the chance on an early w

Marmalade Pantry, ION Orchard

The Marmalade Pantry returns to ION Orchard, reopening on the 4th floor with lots of additions to the menu. I enjoyed my first meal here just before it closed it doors in 2018 so I jumped at the chance to try all the new creations on offer. The Asian-Western restaurant keeps some of its favourites (like the Truffle Fries), and also introduces exclusive dishes to their menu not available at its other Oasia Hotel Downtown and Oasia Hotel Novena locations. For starters, we picke

Code Black Coffeehouse, Kajang

When you think of Kajang, you might immediately think of satay. After all, it is our state’s famous satay city. But the town is starting to welcome new food places into its repertoire. Code Black Coffeehouse is one of the latest offerings to make its way there. It’s barely been a month but the coffee house is already a go-to spot for many Kajang residents. We got to sample some of their best-selling dishes and drinks. Though this cafe is still fairly new, they seem to have th

Indobowl Cafe, Sungai Besi

In recent years, the rise of Indomie has been exponential. You can't turn a corner without seeing Indomie everywhere. They have come up with so many new flavours of Indomie, they have even come up with Indomie chips! So it's no surprise that it has also grown a huge cult following. Twenty Eight Cafe @ 28 Wilkie Road

On a late Saturday afternoon, we wandered up the streets to this old heritage building tucked on the corner of the road leading up a to a hill. There it was, a minimalistic laid back cafe located in a heritage building. The open space and high ceilings with simple light fittings gives off a restrained industrial vibe and it makes you feel right at home. There is a common table in the middle of the cafe and some greenery that gives a fresh tropical look to the place. One of th

Meme Tea&Coff, Plaza Arkadia

Located in Desa Parkcity, Meme Tea&Coff has a beautiful high-ceiling and a generally sophisticated vibe to its cafe. It's unique selling point is that it boasts an interesting range of creative drinks on its menu. I'm guessing that due to the complexity of the ingredients in the drinks, you might have to wait a while for them. I waited about 20 minutes for mine. (From right to left) I tried the Mango Yoghurt drink (RM18.90) which was mango puree with yoghurt and mango chunks.

Glasgow Coffee Festival Coming Soon!

Photo by Glasgow Coffee Festival | Glasgow Coffee Festival will be tackling landfill waste by banning disposable cups! Dear Green Coffee Roasters is bringing their sell-out Glasgow Coffee Festival back to The Briggait for a fourth time this May. This year, they’ve said no to all disposable coffee cups in an effort to pioneer a culture change, and embrace reuse. The event organisers have requested ticket holders to bring their own reusable cup to combat the 30,000 tonnes of co

Milligram, Taman Mayang Jaya

Fancy a porky meal without breaking the bank? Milligram is the perfect place to go! Milligram certainly loves their pork, and boy they know how to use it! You will find creative and indulgent porky food at Milligram, and they serve up amazing desserts as well (where you just may find a cheeky bacon strip or two)! The highlight for me was Milligram's Mother Porker Burger (RM25) which is easily the best pork burger in town! The pork patty was juicy and bursting with flavour. I

Platform 1094, Serangoon

“Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times, when one only remembers to turn on the light.” If those of you out there who are as big of a Harry Potter fan as I am, you’d know that that’s one of Albus Dumbledore’s famous quotes. And to me, food is light! Over here at Platform 1094, all my witchy (or wizardy) dreams came true. It literally felt like a scene out of Harry Potter with the magical food and drinks here. We started off with some drinks that might as well be

Mrs Who, Johor Bahru

Mrs Who has easily become one of our favourite joints when we’re in JB for its clean aesthetics, really well streamlined menu and top quality food. The owner apologised for the lack of variety in the menu, but if anything, we find this to be one of our favourite things about the place. Minimalist is the theme here across the board, hosting earthy greens and plenty of wood. You’ll feel right at home here as staff are friendly and the entire place exudes a welcoming vibe. Mrs W

Six By Sera, Rangoon Road

If donuts, croissants and cute choux are your kind of thing, then it's time to visit Six by Sera! Located at Rangoon Road (opposite the Brunch Cafe), this mini cafe will be your dream cafe if you have a sweet tooth. As we opened the glass doors to the cafe, we were greeted by the smell of freshly baked, buttery goods. The fragrance got us all excited for the food and desserts we were about to try. What they are famous here for are their savoury donuts, and you would not want

Duende Cafe, Perth

Spanish tapas is becoming a trend in many of Perth's food outlets. The eclectic menu of small plates that changes seasonally and relies on fresh ingredients provides diners with an option that is hard to refuse. This style of dining is intimate, somewhat cheaper, there is more variety, and less wastage, said the owner of Duende Cafe when asked why he chooses to serve tapas. Upon arriving at the cafe, we were welcomed by the majestic oval bar that was the centre of attention,

How To Eat A Poké Bowl @ Paperfish, TTDI

Poké Bowls have been making waves lately, with it's heightened popularity especially among health conscious people in Klang Valley. Poké bowl (pronounced as 'POH-keh' and not poke!) is not something new as it has been around for centuries, being a traditional Hawaiian staple dish that is popular with its locals. They are basically chunks of raw marinated fish (eg. tuna, salmon) served on rice with greens and typically dressed with delicious umami sauce. The team at Paperfish

Bakery 47, Glasgow

Photo by Baker47 | Shop front on a sunny day! Bakery47 is a down-to-earth artisan bakery located on Victoria Road on the southside of Glasgow. Owned by talented bakers, Sam and Anna, this bakery opened as an idea and project to build relationships with the local community of creators, makers and Glaswegians, through their love of food and baked goods. Egmont St Eatery, Wellington New Zealand

In the heart of a city where good food is part of its culture, Egmont St Eatery has definitely earned its place. Many come here for a casual meal and that was what we were here for too. As I saw the facade of the simple establishment, I loved the straightforward and sleek layout, which felt both sophisticated and inviting. With a constantly changing menu, Egmont St Eatery is always looking for creative ways to use the best produce of the season. You can enjoy your meals with

Craft Cafe, Bangkok

Nestled under the Phra Khanong BTS stop lies a hidden gem by the name of Craft Cafe - a modern fusion restaurant where East (local Thai delicacies) meets West (coffee, cakes, eggs, breakfast and etc) in perfect harmony. The cafe exudes a warm and inviting ambiance with plenty of design details for art lovers and hipsters alike in Bangkok. The theme is anchored around timeless and classic design elements that were found everywhere within the shop. I love this cool shelf that s

Marmalade, Bangsar Village 2

Marmalade has revamped their entire space from the tired yellow and white interior to a fresh tropical vibe. This is a space where you can catch up with your friends over brunch and also a good place to bring your kids to have a relaxed midweek lunch. There were five of us dining at Marmalade that afternoon and we had plenty to eat. We started off with a couple of starters. The first was a roasted pumpkin soup - part of their soup of the day menu. I personally enjoyed the roa

Zucchero Patisserie, Melaka

Melaka is becoming increasingly gentrified and who can blame em? They’ve got millions of tourists pouring in annually and that number is increasing year on year. So, of course, new f&b establishments are popping up and offering plenty of variety to both the locals and the visitors. Zucchero Patisserie is one of the newest players on the block, opened just a month ago by Timothy Riddle and his pastry chef partner. The patisserie is a modern cafe with an interior boasting cool

Cafe Studio, Kota Damansara

Making good coffee is an art, so it was a great experience to watch coffee artists at work in an actual art studio. Cafe Studio in Kota Damansara is a modern art space featuring local artists as well as a gorgeous cafe. The vibe here is laidback and it is easy to spend a whole Sunday afternoon lazing here. Though it has the fittings of a museum, it carries the warmth of a friendly neighbourhood cafe. Walking around Cafe Studio is never boring because you are engaging in thoug

Fest

Jia Yuan, previously of a different establishment has broken away to do his own thing in Jaya One. The Melbourne-trained chef opened a cosy nook in Jaya One and has decided to call it Fest. The interior is very basic and comfortable with just a hint of a hipster vibe. Look at all the desserts I cannot have ~~~~ Since we dropped by for an early dinner, we decided against coffee but instead went for less caffeinated drinks like locally made Tapping Tapir sodas. The food menu is
