Tsukiji No.8, Kuala Lumpur

"If locals eat there, it must be good!" These wise words certainly rang true for Tsukiji No.8, who had a large table of Japanese-speaking patrons enjoying their meal as we walked into the quaint Japanese restaurant. It was as if we were transported to Tokyo, with Tsukiji No.8's wait staff bringing dish after dish of fresh Japanese seafood, as if it was fresh from the Tsukiji Market itself! One of the highlights was the Ebi Tempura (RM38) that was beautifully plated and featured fresh tiger prawns as the hero of the dish. We saw several tables ordering this dish, it seemed to be a popular one Tsukiji No.8, and it is not hard to see why! With the delectably fresh and juicy tiger prawn coated i

MAI by Dashi Master Marusaya, Bukit Pasoh Road

MAI by Dashi Master Marusaya is another authentic Japanese eatery to call Singapore home. The focus here is dashi, a Japanese soup/cooking stock used as the base for many Japanese food. Here, you can expect all-natural dashi made from special aged bonito and quality konbo. Like most premium Japanese restaurants in Singapore, expect all their ingredients to come direct from Japan. This is the third restaurant in Singapore from the Marusaya group – the first two are Dashi Master Marusaya and the Ten Sushi and Bar. I was here to try MAI’s new donabe, a Japanese style claypot rice dish that I’ve never come across before and was eager to try. Donabe is one of Japan’s oldest styles of cooking. Lik

El Teatro Tapas @ Arcade, The Capitol Kempinski

El Teatro Tapas, "the theatre" is the new kid on the block at the Arcade that brings breathtaking Spanish delights to the table. We had the opportunity to taste some of the new restaurant's some signature dishes that showcases Spain's rich heritage and a host of flavours. We started the culinary journey with the Gazpacho from Andalusia ($12) a cold refreshing tomato soup. The way to drink it is to place the diced peppers and croutons into the glass and to sip on it slowly. This was certainly a great way to start a meal, with punchy flavours that complements our hot tropical weather. Next we had the Croquetas de Pollo, Champinones and Gambas ($18). Directly translated, it's a choice of chicke

Naylors Foods Malaysia: Best Potato Salad & Coleslaw

Christmas is just around the corner and the festivities have already begun with Thanksgiving just past us. With invitation after invitation in the (e)mail, we’ve completely run out of ideas on dishes to bring for pot luck parties. So when we discovered Naylor Farms coleslaw and potato salads at Jaya Grocer, we were pretty relieved. It’s the perfect party contribution and it is absolutely delicious. Here are the four packets we tried: Naylors Potato Salad (RM9.90) Potato salad is one of my favourite side dishes. When done right, it can be the HIGHLIGHT of any meal. I really like the Naylor Farms version because it is super creamy and rich. It’s got a nice tang to it and you can be sure tha
