Lucky Tora, Jalan Mesui

As 2018 comes to an end, we reminisce at the awesome year we spent sampling delicious and creative dishes that the Malaysian F&B scene had to offer. And dare I say, this has to be one of the best restaurants we have visited this year. Lucky Tora is not your average Japanese restaurant. This new fusion-yakitori joint that opened its doors in Changkat Kuala Lumpur back in November 2018 offers modern-Japanese cuisine that is both unique and delicious at the same time. While the menu may contain traditional Japanese dishes (eg. chicken karage, makimono, raw fish, etc.), the super creative people behind Lucky Tora gave them a modern twist with influences from other cuisines such as Thai and Weste

Paradise Teochew, VivoCity

I have always been a huge fan of Chinese cuisine, so when I heard that Paradise Teochew has opened a new outlet in VivoCity, I had to pay this outlet a visit. Greeted by an elegant traditional Chinese setting, this 240 seater outlet in VivoCity is offering 13 new innovative interpretations of traditional Teochew dishes exclusive to the Vivocity outlet. To kick off the feast for the night, we were first served the Teochew-Style Roasted Suckling Pig ($198), featuring a 25-day-old piglet that is marinated in an aromatic spice blend. Out of my sheer curiosity, I inquired what was special about the “Teochew-Style” Suckling Pig and was told that there is a little bit of meat left below the roasted

Hyatt House Staycation, Mont Kiara

It’s been ages since we had some time to do a staycation so when Hyatt House Mont Kiara invited us for a night’s stay at their property, we were very excited. It was two days before Christmas and the vibes all around the Arcoris neighbourhood was buzzing with festive cheer. ‘‘Twas the perfect time for a staycation! Living just a stone’s throw away from Mont Kiara, I’ve seen the area develop over the years but one of the most beautiful developments in the area has to be Hyatt House and its surrounding Arcoris residences. Downstairs to the hotel are shops and restaurants like The Majapahit, Mont Kiara Hyatt House Mont Kiara is the perfect modern getaway away from the city. Mont Kiara, being a

15 Stamford @ Kempinski Capitol Hotel

Our favourite Demon Chef, Chef Alvin Leung, is back again with another establishment here in Singapore. This time, he's taking the lead at 15 Stamford by Alvin Leung, the in-house restaurant in the new Kempinski Capitol Hotel. The last time we had a taste of the Demon Chef's creations was at Forbidden Duck, which featured Cantonese food with an interesting twist. This modern restaurant showcases an interesting array of Chef Alvin's favourite recipes in Asia, paying humble homage to different cuisines through Korea, the Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia, Hong Kong and Singapore. Trust us when we say that you'll be in for a sensorial expereince here. Let's get down to some of the awesome dishes

Le Shrimp Ramen, Paragon

If you love your prawns as much as we do, you’ll be delighted to know that a restaurant that specialises in juicy shrimp goodness, Le Shrimp Ramen from the Paradise Group, has recently opened in Paragon! Having had a craving for good prawns, we were ecstatic when we received an invite to see if it was as praiseworthy as we heard! Paradise Group manages over 40 restaurants locally and they usually do not disappoint with their concepts, hence there was already a bar set in place for what this current brainchild had to present. As Le Shrimp Ramen is conveniently located at Paragon’s Basement Level 1, we were not surprised to see that the restaurant was fully packed with a long queue of eag

Omakase Burger @ Wisma Atria, Orchard Road

Just like me, I know many would get rather confused by this restaurant’s name – Omakase Burger. At first glance, you’d think they’d be serving up some Japanese-Western fusion burgers. But that’s not the case once you take a look at their menu. What you’d find here are all-American burgers. But why the term “omakase” then? Well, we spoke to founder and owner Cheng Hsin Yao, who explained that the term "omakase" means "I trust you" in Japanese. So, when you're walking through the doors to get an Omakase Burger, you're putting your trust in the restaurant to serve you something that will rock your world. This time, Omakase Burger is reintroducing its burgers with new buns. Cheng's pursuit for p

Genki Sushi, Sunway Pyramid

Genki Sushi might look familiar to you. The yellow logo is striking and recognisable a mile away. Those who are veterans in the foodie scene will remember that the brand used to be in Malaysia many years back. Today, it is making its reentrance into the Malaysian food scene bigger, better and bolder! Genki Sushi comes fully equipped with a digital menu (just scan the QR code at your table and it’ll pop up on your phone screen) and an impressive three track Kousoku Express that delivers food right to your seat. All you have to do is input your order via your phone and the “bullet train” will speedily deliver your food. You’ll be impressed at how fast and efficient this service is - you’ll pro

Oriental Chinese Cuisine, Pullman Kuala Lumpur Bangsar

Apple Samgyupsal, Jaya One

Korean BBQ. You try one, you’ve tried it all, right? WRONG. Apple Samgyupsal at Jaya One is unlike its competitors. The new Korean BBQ place offers delicious street food beyond its meaty goodness. What’s so special about Apple Samgyupsal? First, it’s about the premium cuts that this Korean BBQ place offers. Rather than the typical cuts you get, you get more premium, delicious cuts here. Though we weren’t told exactly what these premium cuts were, the flavours in the meat attested to the claim. The cuts were a lot juicier and tender than we’ve tried at any other place. One of the most interesting dishes we had that evening was the jumeok-bap (RM25). This is honestly one of the best rice bal

Code Black Coffeehouse, Kajang

When you think of Kajang, you might immediately think of satay. After all, it is our state’s famous satay city. But the town is starting to welcome new food places into its repertoire. Code Black Coffeehouse is one of the latest offerings to make its way there. It’s barely been a month but the coffee house is already a go-to spot for many Kajang residents. We got to sample some of their best-selling dishes and drinks. Though this cafe is still fairly new, they seem to have the homemade flavours in their pastas down pat. The coffees here are pretty standard, except that they offer flavoured lattes like one of my favourites - the rose latte. I love it when cafes are able to execute flavoured l

Drinks at Komyuniti @ YOTEL, Orchard

Komyuniti is a new chic and unique dining experience brought to you by YOTEL. If you’ve been following us closely, you’d know that we were pretty overwhelmed by the sheer amount of food and drinks we were served when we came here to dine. So, we decided to split the food and drinks into two articles. Click here to check out the food. Apart from the amazing food here, Komyuniti has launched its first cocktail programme under its F&B manager As’ad Isnin. We had (much more than) a sip of their new cocktails here and we’re glad to say that we might have found our new regular drinking spot. Most bars would spot a signature drink that is exclusively found there. Komyuniti’s signature cocktail is t

Food at Komyuniti @ YOTEL, Orchard Road

Located in the heart of Orchard Road is Komyuniti, a new restaurant launched by Yotel on 1 November 2018. The bar and restaurant joint is helmed by Head Chef Mark Tai and F&B Manager As’ad Isnin. This dynamic duo is out on a mission to bring guests on a journey with their various experiences, inspirations and memories. We were pretty overwhelmed by the sheer amount of food and drinks we were served when we came here to dine. So, we decided to split the food and drinks into two articles. Here we’ll be talking about the food. Click here to check out the drinks. For starters, we tried the Mama’s Tomato Soup ($9), a hearty cream of tomato with a hint of red bell pepper that invokes a nostalgic “

Sofitel Damansara Sunday Brunch, Damansara Heights

Sunday brunch is one of my favourite meals. So I was super excited to try Sofitel Damansara’s Sunday brunch. Before I got married, it would be the perfect date for me. As a morning person, I love getting up early and getting everything I need done, then enjoying the rest of the day - from brunch to going for a massage to ending the weekend with an early night. But after I got married, Sunday brunch time became family time. My husband’s long standing appointment with his family for brunch was carried into our marriage and it’s something I really look forward to. It’s a great time to bond, try new food and catch up on what went on during the week. When we found out about Sofitel Damansara's Su

Ante Christmas Menu 2018

Our favourite restaurant, Ante is back again with its annual tradition of offering a specialised Christmas menu. This year, Ante One Utama and Ante Publika have elevated its standards in porky goodness by introducing OLIVE PORK. For the Christmas set (RM320 for 4 pax), you get a delightful chestnut salad with ricotta and raspberry vinaigrette, crispy skin smoked duck with peach salsa and 4 sets of olive pork steaks! This is more than reasonable considering the quality and quantity of food you’re getting in the set. The crispy skin smoked duck slices have been part of Ante’s a la carte menu since late 2017 but if you’re like me and you’ve totally missed it out, then you’re going to want to ge

Wing Wing, Pavilion KL

Earlier this year, we stumbled upon a fried chicken joint called Wing Wing in London (click here to our review) and we absolutely loved it! It's not your regular ol' fried chicken restaurant as the menu is inspired by the famous Korean chimaek (which literally means fried chicken and beer). Korean-style fried chicken has been gaining traction in Malaysia recently with its crispy batter accompanied by an array of specialty sauces that go tremendously well with the fried chicken. I'm happy to report that Wing Wing has expanded its operations in Malaysia and the've just opened their first flagship store outside of the UK in Pavilion Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. A sensational news as I don't have to

Shutters @ Amara Sanctuary Resort, Sentosa

Escape from the hustle and bustle of the city, and head on to Amara Santuary Resort for some peace and quiet. While you’re there, Shutters, the restaurant in the Resort is a must-go! Shutters has recently launched its new Asian-European fusion menu and we got a taste of this tantalising menu. And before I go on talking about the dishes, I would just like to say that everything here was just perfect. From the warm and intimate ambiance to the amazing food from chef Jeffrey Tan. This is definitely one of the best hotel restaurants I have ever been to. So let’s get down to business… First up, we had the Grilled Baby Octopus Salad ($18++). The octopus was braised in hearty local spices and light

HEYTEA introduces 2 new Bobo Tea this December

The brown sugar bubble milk tea is all everyone is talking about these days in Singapore. And it’s no surprise that HEYTEA, China’s number one contemporary tea connoisseur, is stepping up its game and bring you two new upgraded versions – Brûlée Bobo Tea ($4.50) and Oreo Bobo Tea ($4.80). Launching on 12 December 2018, make your way down to HEYTEA and enjoy a 1-for-1 promo for all Boba Tea for one day only! Indobowl Cafe, Sungai Besi

In recent years, the rise of Indomie has been exponential. You can't turn a corner without seeing Indomie everywhere. They have come up with so many new flavours of Indomie, they have even come up with Indomie chips! So it's no surprise that it has also grown a huge cult following. And if you are a fan of Indomie, then Indobowl Cafe will be your ultimate foodie haven. With a menu filled with Indomie, Chicken Rice, and Nasi Goreng (fried rice) made with a variety of ingredients and other accompaniments; Indobowl definitely did not fail to deliver on the expectations of an Indomie-lover. While the noodles themselves were very similar to the kind that we had all throughout my childhood, I was p

‘Tis the season to be jolly! With Christmas just a few weeks away, we’re making a (nice) list of all the best Christmas food in Singapore and places you can head to for some festive cheer! Here are some of the places we think are worth the calories: Goodwood Park Hotel This year, check out the Soy-braised Turkey served with Toasted Almonds and Homemade Chilli Sauce for takeaway at The Deli in Goodwood Park Hotel. The turkey is slow cooked for about two hours to achieve its juicy texture and strong flavours.
