Detox Cafe @ Orchard Gateway, Orchard Road

Eating healthy in a busy city like Singapore just got a whole lot easier with Detox Cafe. This take-away lunchbox concept provides fresh food daily and combos that are ready to go during the busy lunch period. This is especially great for working professionals that lead a busy lifestyle, but still want to keep in shape and eat clean. Here are some light signature options below that we tasted. They were perfect for a weekday filler during work hours or fuel after hitting the gym. We had the Salmon Fiesta ($12.90), which came with zucchini, broccoli and green salad leaves, pumpkin seeds and a citrus balsamic dressing to top it off. Unfortunately, the Salmon was a tad overcooked and dry but th

Autumn & winter themed dishes @ Chengdu, Amoy Street

Winter is coming! And Chengdu is coming up with some seasonal dishes that are sure to tantalise your taste buds. This is our second trip back to Chengdu and during our first trip here, we were thoroughly impressed and this place has got to be one of the only Szechuan Chinese restaurants that I would set foot in (and come back again)! Before we get started on my thoughts on the new menu, I would like to mention that Szechuan food is typically pretty spicy. It could either be "chilli-spicy" or "mala-spicy", which means numbingly spicy due to the peppercorn and chilli oil in the dish. So, to save everyone the pain (or the pleasure), I will be including a spicy factor for each dish! Spicy Factor

The Great Meat Feast 2018 @ The Carvery, Park Hotel Alexandra

It’s that time of the year again, when The Carvery hosts its third annual “The Great Meat Feast”! Steady those knives and forks, as they yet again present a fine and prime selection of beef from around the world. And this time, from the likes of Australia, Uruguay and Japan. Having heard raving reviews from our fellow writers at Foodie Vs The World about last year's "The Great Meat Feast", we just had to make our way down to Park Hotel Alexandra once again this year, where The Carvery is currently at, for a sneak preview. This year, the unique meats each undergo different ways of being prepared and presented, which can be enjoyed with light seasoning of different salts, house-made sauce

Nori Sushi @ Fraser Place KL

From the folks who brought you Malai Thai Restaurant, hails a brand new concept that focuses on sushi, with ingredients that are air flown directly from Japan. Upon arriving, I was greeted warmly by the team and was seated at the bar area. The bar has an open kitchen concept, where I could watch how Executive Chef Joe San prepare his beautiful work of art. Executive Chef Joe San, who has more than 18 years of experience as a Sushi Chef, emphasises a lot about the freshness of the sashimi served here. He also pays close attention to detail with the quality of the sashimi as soon as it arrives to the restaurant. He ensures all fresh produce are stored well, and only the best cuts of sashimi ar

There will also be win

NINETEEN80, Tanjong Pagar Road

I've never been a big fan of the nightlife in Singapore. Maybe it's the friends I had growing up at the edge of seventeen or the music that I listen to, rarely do I find a bar/club that I truly enjoy. But sweet dreams are made of this, NINETEEN80 is a new retro-themed arcade-bar-discotheque paying tribute to the wonders of the 80’s. I might have been born at the tail end of the 80’s, so I’ve not experienced much of it first hand, but I've always felt an affinity to the music, references and aesthetic of that era. I’ll admit, I’m so excited, and I just can’t hide it. So wake me up and let's a go go get it on like Donkey Kong. Saturated neon lights illuminate from the entrance drawing me in li

Fancy, North Canal Road

Stepping into this brand new watering hole along a stretch of an unassuming street, Fancy was not what I was expecting. It’s modern, minimal aesthetics, mirrors it’s philosophy in their cocktails and food. For a place called Fancy, there was a noticeable lack of theatrics. You have no idea how much the aesthetic of the bar speaks to me. Grey concrete floors, monochromatic furniture, a single pink daisy adorne each table giving a pop of colour. The main feature on the far back wall cycles through projections of various images that reflects the same pink accents dotted around the space. It reminded me of the chic, sophisticated space of an art gallery, which, being a former art student, felt i

TOKIDON, Raffles Place

For those of you, like me, working in the Central Business District (CBD) area and always on the look out for the newest food joint to try out, you'd be glad to know that the basement of the Hong Leong Building has been revamped. It is now spotting some interesting new spots and one that we love is TOKIDON. Brought to you by the fine people of Kabuke, located in Telok Ayer (and also one of my most frequent food places), TOKIDON specialises in Japanese rice bowls. Great for the busy bee looking for a whole meal in a single bowl. Read on and you might find your next favourite place to tapao your lunch from! Before you pick your bowl, you can also pick you choice of carbs: Japanese rice, cha so

Wangz Hotel, Outram Road

Singapore may be a lovely country. But it's quite well known that we don't get much holidays around here. So, the best thing to do, in my opinion, is to book a great hotel for the weekend and enjoy a staycation! We absolutely loved Wangz Hotel with its Unwind with Wangz Staycay package ($$258++). And we highly recommend for you to get this package. You'll see why as you read along. This luxury boutique hotel is located on Outram Road, near where all the great food in Tiong Bharu are at. The hotel itself has its own restaurant, Upper Place, which serves one of the best foods ever! We've been there twice and Chef William has not once disappointed us. Anyway, so walking into the hotel. You'd no

Waterbath Chef, West Coast Plaza

In the city of Singapore where there is an abundance of local and an international food available in almost every nook and corner, it can be difficult at times to stick to a healthy diet and lifestyle. It is not difficult to find healthy food in this city but it would be a bonus to come across a solid establishment serving up a delicious wholesome meal. Waterbath Chef just opened its doors in January 2018 with the aim of shaping and helping the community live a clean and healthy lifestyle. At the moment, the market is saturated with a "build your own meal" concept but this new contender has so much more to offer than just your typical superfood local joint. First, we decided to build our ver

The Red Chamber KL, Taman OUG

When it comes to speakeasies, you would imagine walking in to find overpriced cocktails and a pretentious vibe. But that’s definitely not the case at The Red Chamber, KL. The Red Chamber is a speakeasy that exudes a chilled out, vintage Asian vibe. Here, you will find cocktails, craft beers and a laidback vibe you’ll feel comfortable spending hours enjoying. Craft beers here are aplenty from IPAs to darker stouts. We loved the variety here but I gravitated to my usual Hitachino and the like. However, the owners had some recommendations which I loved as well. After we were done with craft beers, we sampled their cocktails. This is the 寂寞 cocktail, which means lonely, is RM26. A citrus-based

Dash Box Hotel, Cyberjaya

Once in a while, we all need an escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. We all need a getaway from work. A place to relax and unwind, putting the worry and stress behind you. Dash Box Hotel in Cyberjaya did just that. I had the pleasure of staying in Dash Box's dash Deluxe room with my mother for a short getaway. The room was spacious and comfortable. It had a large super king size bed, with a balcony overlooking the gorgeous pool. Not to mention, the toilet was spacious with a minimalist design, with a great shower! Not only does Dash Box have a super cool industrial chic vibe, with the use of shipping containers as part of its architecture, they also have an awesome pool with water

New ramen and shabu-shabu soup bases at Ramen Champion, Clarke Quay Central

Ramen champion is bringing some local and Thai flavours into its menu this season with the introduction of the Laksa Tonkotsu and Green Curry. Enjoy the Laksa Tonkotsu ($13.80++), a marriage between local and Japanese flavours with ramen noodles, black fungus spring onions, ajitama and pork belly cha shu. Thai food lovers will be excited to try the Green Curry ($14.80++). The full aroma of the soup is enlivened with lemongrass, garlic, ginger, and shallots. This was my preferred flavour among both the new soups. In my opinion, both the soups can be rather thick, so make sure you come with an empty stomach as it can be rather filling. If ramen is not your thing, you can always opt for a shabu

Mak Mak Char Chan Ting @ Awana Sky Avenue

Exterior of Mak Mak Char Chan Ting (Wan Hoi Char Chan Tian) | Photo by Melvin Gan As we all know, Genting SkyAvenue has recently turned into a food paradise. A recent addition to the variety of offerings is Mak Mak Char Chan Ting at Awana Sky Avenue, serving Hong Kong delights. Here’s what we tried. Peanut butter Toast | Photo by Melvin Gan First, we tried the Peanut Butter Toast. Now, this is not your normal peanut butter toast. What is impressive about this is that the filling is made in house by the chef. It might be very rich in peanut aroma but upon tasting it, it does not overwhelm your tastebuds. In fact, it’s light enough for you to want to crave for more! X.O. Zhu Cheong Fun | Photo

Malai Thai, Fraser Place KL

When you think of authentic Thai food in KL, not many places pop to mind. That’s because it’s mostly chains in the city. A new player to the game is Malai Thai at Fraser Place, which brings authenticity and just plain old good Thai food to downtown KL. Malai Thai not only serves the most delicious authentic Thai food, it also showcases its creativity in dishes such as it’s Thai crispy fish with mango salad (RM25). This is unlike any other Thai appetiser we’ve ever tried. The fish is addictive - so much so that you can’t just have one piece. We easily finished this dish and if we didn’t have so many dishes on our table already, we would have ordered more! One of the highlights of our meal at
