Shoreditch Secret Food Tours, Shoreditch, London

During a bright and sunny spring day in the big city, we were invited to join the Secret Food Tours in Shoreditch, London to visit iconic food spots around Bricklane and learn about the history behind how these foods came about in the area. First stop was the famous Beigel Bake! Funny story; the original Beigel Bake (the one with the yellow sign) is actually two doors down from the one with the white sign (pictured below). However, many years ago, the brothers who were running the bagel bakery had a squabble which resulted in one brother opening up a competing business a stone's throw away from the original! The original Beigel Bake now doesn't belong to the family because they sold their

Embassy Restaurant, Siem Reap

On our last night in Siem Reap, we were pleasantly surprised to be invited to Embassy Restaurant to dine. Rather unprepared for fine dining, we showed up to the restaurant in flip flops and casual wear. But thankfully most of the people there seemed to be in casual or semi-casual attire as well. It was the night of the Khmer New Year, and people were running around the streets, shops and hotels shooting others with water guns. So it was understandable that we showed up to the restaurant slightly soaked and unkempt. It was nice to see that the restaurant remained opened during the celebrations. We had tried to make reservations at other restaurants during the weekend and it was almost imp

New Wagyu Offerings at The Butcher’s Kitchen, Suntec City Mall

From the creators of Singapore’s first-ever flaming Hokkaido beef bowl, The Butcher’s Kitchen has now added five new mainstays to its arsenal. We’re back again at The Butcher’s Kitchen and once again, they’ve got our passion for quality beef ignited. Literally. The bowls were on fire. The first flaming bowl we has was The Butcher’s Flaming Dice ($13.90) which is doused with their special cognac concoction. This was by far my favourite, because the cognac enhanced the flavours of the beef and I absolutely love the superb quality beef cuts that The Butcher’s Kitchen serves. Although the bowls don’t look different from one another, the whiskey-infused The Butcher’s High Roller ($18.90) features

Glasgow Coffee Festival Coming Soon!

Photo by Glasgow Coffee Festival | Glasgow Coffee Festival will be tackling landfill waste by banning disposable cups! Dear Green Coffee Roasters is bringing their sell-out Glasgow Coffee Festival back to The Briggait for a fourth time this May. This year, they’ve said no to all disposable coffee cups in an effort to pioneer a culture change, and embrace reuse. The event organisers have requested ticket holders to bring their own reusable cup to combat the 30,000 tonnes of coffee cup waste which are disposed each year in the UK. KeepCup will be on hand at the festival to loan reusable cups to anyone who needs to borrow one for the day. Photo by Glasgow Coffee Festival Event organiser, and fo

Miyagawa Unagiya Icinoji, Robertson Quay

Leading up to my graduation trip to Japan, I have been researching and coming up with a list of restaurants to visit when I’m there. Turns out I got to experience Miyagawa Honten earlier than I expected! Miyagawa is unveiling its very first outlet outside Japan right here in Singapore. With its outlet in Meguro-ku, Tokyo recently awarded the Bib Gourmand in Michelin Guide, I had very high expectations of their Unagi. Upon entering the restaurant, I immediately felt like I stepped into one of those cosy Izakaya restaurants you’d find in Japan. And upon entering, you'd be greeted with a tank full of eels upon entering this 34-seater restaurant. The unagi here is served in three different style

Pets & Cup Thai Cafe, Bangsar Telawi

If you’re looking for new pet cafes in KL to check out in 2018, Pets & Cup Thai Cafe is the perfect joint to come to. You get to enjoy amazing, authentic Thai food AND your pets get to roam about freely in the play area (or all around the cafe). Any pet parents dream is to have an indoor play area for their pets to play in on a hot Sunday afternoon and that’s exactly what we got here at Pets & Cup Thai Cafe. Of course, being huge foodies, the quality of the food matters too. And knowing the chef is Thai ensures authenticity in the dishes. We were super impressed with

Mentaiko Madness, NEX

As part of RE&S’ 30th Anniversary Celebration, it has launched a series of exciting promotions including “Mentaiko Madness” at four of its restaurant concepts: Tokyo Eater Pop-Up Store, Kabe No Ana, Men-ichi Japanese Ramen and Ichiban Sushi. Mentaiko fans rejoice! The Tokyo Eater Pop-Up store located at the basement of NEX is exclusively dedicated to serving all things mentaiko. The Pop-Up concept store is open from now till 30 September. I tried the Aburi Mentai Mayo Salmon Don ($14.80) that comes with a bowl of soup on the side. This is my first time trying mentaiko and therefore finding it very salty with a spicy aftertaste. However, the tamago found in this dish was sweeter than usual, a

Seafood Buffet at The Square Restaurant, Novotel Singapore Clarke Quay

I’ve always appreciated a good seafood buffet, or any buffet really. But since seafood buffets are everywhere, what differentiates the one at Novotel’s The Square Restaurant with the other is that they have not just an amazing variety, but also a super fresh spread. From now till 26 May, on Fridays, Saturdays, as well as eve of and public holidays, make a booking with Novotel and try out what they have to offer. Prices start at $39++ for children aged five to 12 years old, $55++ for senior citizens above 55 years old and $78 for adults aged 13 to 54. I can’t possibly go on about every single dish here, because there are WAY TOO MANY! But I’ll be telling you what I think are some of the “must

Hawker Semi-buffet at The Luxe, Shangri-La Orchard

Every hotel has its own buffet spread with its own culinary theme. One that really impressed me (and hotel buffets rarely do), was the semi-buffet over at the Luxe in Shangri-La Orchard that features comforting hawker food. We'll be giving away a $100 voucher to 2 lucky winners this weekend! Be sure to check out our instagram page for details on how to enter the contest! But if you were to come here on your own accord (without vouchers), why would you pay a premium hotel buffet price just to eat some hawker food you can get cheap? And here's why: Firstly, the ambiance. The Luxe just radiates class and being indoors with aircond was definitely a plus! Towards the back to The Luxe, you’d notic

Babajia is one of the restaurants we popped into. Babajia is a lovely local restaurant, serving the best Nyonya fare up in the sky. We got to try two local delights and one of their recommended special drinks while there. Photo by Melvin | Seafood Nyonya Laksa RM23 (RM22 for those who hold the Genting Rewards card) First, we had their recommended Seafood Nyonya Laksa, the soup of the Nyonya laksa was really thick and spicy. Beside wingettes & drumettes, they also serve classic chicken and burgers. Photo by

Beast & Butterflies, M Social Singapore

Just around the riverbend, nestled away from the hustle and bustle of Clarke Quay is Beast & Butterflies, a quirky and entertaining dining experience at M Social Singapore. Photo by Beast & Butterflies I absolutely love the vibrant and eclectic interior. Books and lava lamps litter countertops, electronic tablets adorn a grey concrete wall displaying images of landscapes, marble table tops that light up from the inside, mismatched upholstery and floor tiles. This restaurant just screams out to my inner child. Photo by Beast & Butterflies Its fun interior is only matched by a delectable and eccentric Asian Fusion menu. Separated into two distinctively different types of dishes, one will have

Blixen, Old Spitalfields Market, London

Photo by Samad | Interior of Blixen In Spitafields, there are a number of eating spots that you can try and sometimes, without doing any research, I tend to fall into the trap of wanting to try a place because the interior design impresses me. Well Blixen was one of them, however I can't say that I'm entirely impressed by the food we tried for lunch. Photo by Samad | Mozzarella Burrata, Chicory, Fennel, Orange and Pecan Nuts (£8.00/£16.00) So I'm gonna start by sharing my experience with the food here. The Mozzarella Burrata, Chicory, Fennel, Orange and Pecan Nuts impressed me the least out the three we ordered for lunch. I'm definitely one who can appreciate a well plated dish, I mean
