Our top 5 favourite places to eat in Singapore for 2017

Another year has come to an end again and throughout the year, our team has been to many many places to eat. And out of the them, here are some of our favourites (in no particular order): 1. PROVISIONS, Dempsey We've been to Provisions twice and each time has been amazing. We especially love the skewers that have been marinated and grilled with love, as well as the unique cocktails here. And we always feel right at home here with warm welcomes from Chef Justin. 2. Audace, Jalan Besar Audace is one of our favourite places to go to in Singapore. We were super impressed and had the time of our lives with Chef Jeremy's culinary creativity. And of course we will never forget the best foie gras we

B Burger, Orchard Cineleisure

I’d seen the place circulating on my social media for weeks! But being (mostly) based in KL, it’s hard for me to just drop everything and pop by Singapore to try out a place that’s caught my attention. Thankfully, I had a trip I couldn’t miss and found myself in Singapore over a weekend. I knew I had to set aside time to try B Burger. So on a Sunday afternoon, I slid into one of their bright and welcoming booths to indulge in some burgers. I’ve been to quite a few burger places before. Five guys and Shake Shack in Manhattan, MyBurgerLab and KGB in Kuala Lumpur... but none were quite as tropical and colourful as B Burger. Its appeal is definitely for a younger crowd. And it certainly succeeds

The Clueless Bride: Choosing A Wedding Venue

When you get engaged and start planning your wedding, the first thing you should know is that everyone is going to have an opinion. That high school mate you haven’t spoken to in 10 years will chime in with some suggestions. Your bridesmaids will have plenty to say - they’re just as excited as you are! Your parents may or may not have anything to say (but more often than not, they will definitely have much to say). Your future spouse will also have a thing or two to contribute. But to prevent your wedding becoming a total mishmash that turns out looking like a kindergarten kid’s school project, here are a couple of things I did as a bride. 1. Keep most of it between your husband and yourself

Bar Bites @ Neon Pigeon, Keong Saik Rd

I took a hiatus from doing food reviews for a few months, mostly due to an overloaded schedule and some travelling, so it felt quite serendipitous that the last place I reviewed before my break -- Neon Pigeon, is the one that I returned with. You can check out my previous review here. This time round, Neon Pigeon had a new bar bites menu that they were presenting to us. Their food has always been intriguing, a combination of different cuisines and styles to make for a more interesting dish. So as per usual, I was super excited to see what they had to offer. First up on the table were the Shoyu Glazed Peanuts ($5), with puffed wild rice. A relatively simple tasting dish for you to munch on wh

Hommage Restaurant, Damansara Utama

Hommage Restaurant KL is easily one of the most ambitious restaurants of the season. Located at Damansara Utama, where Battery Acid Club used to be, it is an unexpected but pleasant location. Parking is easy to find and the area is quiet. What I love about Hommage is its welcoming vibe as you enter. The previous fittings from Battery Acid Club are versatile and adaptable to any kind of F&B establishment, making it the perfect setting for Hommage. You can order some sourdough bread (RM12) as an entree, which is served with a beautifully textured olive tapenade and butter. For some starting drinks, we ordered a couple of refreshing iced teas. The hibiscus lemonade and orange mint ice tea (both

Milligram, Taman Mayang Jaya

Fancy a porky meal without breaking the bank? Milligram is the perfect place to go! Milligram certainly loves their pork, and boy they know how to use it! You will find creative and indulgent porky food at Milligram, and they serve up amazing desserts as well (where you just may find a cheeky bacon strip or two)! The highlight for me was Milligram's Mother Porker Burger (RM25) which is easily the best pork burger in town! The pork patty was juicy and bursting with flavour. It was topped with delicious caramelised onions, cheese, salad leaves and pork bacon. There was also a slight spice to the burger which added more oomph to the dish! The burger is served with a side of zucchini and carrot

Café Montigo, The Star Vista

Montigo Resorts is an award-winning upscale hospitality brand in Indonesia. Its main philosophy is to create an ideal destination for all generations. With the same ethos in mind, Café Montigo is their first full-fledged café that opened in Singapore. We started off with some interesting drinks. From the left, we have the Malted Malteser Shakeroo ($8.00), it wasn’t so sweet but definitely very creamy. Next, the Tilo Avocado Espresso ($9.50). I love both a good avocado milkshake and coffee, and this unique combination was definitely intriguing. Finally, their Lychee Ginger Cooler ($6.50) was a sweet fizzy drink with a hint of ginger that made it very refreshing. And on to the mains! First up,

Smoke & Mirrors, National Gallery Singapore

Nestled on top of the National Gallery, you'll find nothing but the amazing view of the city, warm hospitality and a delightfully creative cocktail menu to indulge in. Headed by one of Singapore’s top bartenders, Yugnes and his amazing team, you can be sure you’ll be taken care of when you step into Smoke and Mirrors, especially if you intend to come here with a really special someone. I started my evening out with the Velvet Gin & Tonic ($22++), and it really lived up to its name. Anyone who knows me would know that I am just unable to enjoy Gin & Tonic, no matter how much I try. Their interpretation has really changed my perception, as the coconut flavours really pull away the attention fr

TR Fire Grill, Pavilion KL

Ever tried Chicken with waffles? How about Zoodles? All the way from Florida, the sister restaurant to Tony Romas is the USA award-winning TR Fire Grill. I had the wonderful opportunity to try out their new and first international restaurant here in Pavilion KL. TR Fire Grill is not about the juicy and chunky beef ribs you get over at Tony Romas, instead they have used a different and not so traditional concept -- it is an all American southern restaurant serving artisan-creative and unique signature dishes such as chicken and waffles, oven roasted chicken and more. Also, TR Fire Grill is currently having a promotion for selected beers. Grab a refreshing RM10 beer with whoever, whenever! The

Flashbang Singapore is in Town!

The festive season is here and you can see many carnivals, Christmas markets and pop up stalls opening up everywhere island-wide. One of the more interesting ones that we went to was Flashbang, Singapore’s first and largest creative retail playground over at Somerset. This playground that’s open from 9 to 30 December is nicely decorated with neon lights everywhere. I would highly suggest for you to go in the evening for some insta-worthy shots. Flashbang opens every day from 3pm onwards and during weekend evenings (7pm to 11pm), there are live performances for you to enjoy. And on Christmas Eve (24 Dec), the night activities will be extended till 1am for everyone to celebrate Christmas toget

Eska Wellness Spa Massage and Salon, Batam

Seafood, Shopping and Spa are the 3S you look forward to when you plan for a trip to Batam and that's exactly what I have done. Speaking of planning a trip to Batam, you can definitely plan your trip ahead by securing your ferry ride back and forth through Batam Fast, where they have some of the best prices in town. This is can also be done online right here so you can skip the queue to buy your tickets. After I got off the ferry, I went down for lunch for some amazing seafood at Ikan Bakar Cianjur (check out my review here. I went around after at Nagoya Shopping Mall and I couldn't help but take up the chance to unwind to at the nearby Eska Spa. Eska is definitely the place to consider espe

Christmas and New Year's Eve at Montigo Resorts

It's the happiest time of the year, especially for us at foodievstheworld because we absolutely love Christmas food! Christmas set menus showcase an establishment's ability to combine tradition and modernity. That's exactly what Montigo Resorts Nongsa and Seminyak are able to do. Plus they have a stellar lineup of exciting things to look out for during this festive season. What better way to usher in the New Year than by the sea, right? Who can even resist such a beautiful plate of food? Montigo Resorts, Nongsa o TIIGO Beach Club overlooking the South China Sea at Montigo Resorts, Nongsa will offer a meat and seafood barbeque perfect for carnivores on December 15, 2017 o For the unconve

Stateland Asian-fusion Café, Bali Lane

As Singapore is one of the world’s biggest food hubs, it’s not hard to find cuisines from all over the world in this little island. What is more intriguing is the crossing of elements from different cuisine into one. I have had the opportunity to explore Stateland Asian-fusion Café just along Bali Lane, and I’d love to share what’s available if you are looking for something that’s not your typical cuisine. We started with the Kimchi Carbonara ($20). I love both Korean and Italian food, and boy was I excited to try this one! You start off biting into the usual creamy taste of a carbonara with the egg yolk but what really gave this dish a kick was the tangy kimchi that comes with turkey bacon.

Natsu, Clementi Mall

West siders rejoice as the awesome people behind Pezzo brings you the first and only specialty Japanese Tempura Kiosk right at Clementi Mall. Natsu is also in the process of applying for their Halal certification. So, that's good news for our Muslim friends who'll be able join the fun very soon. One of their dishes to look forward to would be the Jumbo Prawn ($3) where you can taste the freshness and juiciness of the prawn while enjoying the tempura, and It’s great that they’ve made sure that each piece is not too oily. Just because Natsu is a kiosk, that does not mean you're not able to get a full meal here. There are even set meals here too. Give their Tempura & Onsen Set ($5.90) a try as

Hotel Jen Tanglin Introduces Relay Robot, JENA!

In November, Hotel Jen Singapore marked a new milestone as the first international hotel brand to use autonomous relay robots in Asia. Both Hotel Jen at Orchardgateway and Hotel Jen Tanglin welcomed JENO and JENA respectively. JENO is a lovely shade of turquoise, while JENA sports a very dainty pink, both the brand colours of Hotel Jen. JENO seems to be wearing a jacket and tie, while JENA is decked out in a pretty pink scarf. We got to personally experience the relay robot system when we were in Hotel Jen Tanglin earlier in December. I’m the kind of traveller who likes to spend quite a lot of time in the hotel, enjoying its facilities and various offerings. So while I was at Hotel Jen Tangl

Where the Pancakes Are, London

Where The Pancakes Are is one of the many establishments in Flat Iron Square, a culinary hub settled among seven old railway arches in between Southwark and London Bridge tube stations. It is one of the very few restaurants in London to focus exclusively on serving pancakes, and has won numerous awards from Time Out and Channel 4’s Sunday Brunch. Patricia Trijbits, the owner of Where The Pancakes Are, has spent time living all over the world, including Holland, Paris, California, and even Malaysia, before settling in London. She believes the comfort and nostalgia of pancakes transcends cultures and national borders. Patricia’s vision is to combine classic indulgence with current healthy food

Dragon Bowl, Marina Square

Let me tell you guys a little about my all-time favourite Chinese restaurant here in Singapore, Dragon Bowl. Being from a Cantonese background, I tend to always gravitate towards Cantonese-style cuisines and Dragon Bowl definitely serves it up amazingly. I would always come here for some comforting food when I’m feeling down or when I want to celebrate my birthday. The great thing about Dragon Bowl is that it’s an all-time friendly place that’s also perfect for those family dinners. This time, we’re over at the Marina Square outlet, which has an exclusive 30% off ALL DIM SUM during lunch EVERYDAY (11am to 2.30pm)! But this offer is only until the end of the month (31 December). Let’s take a

Marina Bay Sands and WWF Partnership

Marina Bay Sands has announced a landmark partnership with the World Wide Fund for Nature in Singapore (WWF) to raise sustainability standards within Asia’s hospitality industry, starting with ocean conservation. According to WWF, Asia consumes two-thirds of the global fish catch, with Singapore’s per capita seafood consumption of 22kg exceeding the global average of 20kg. Through their Responsible Seafood campaign, Marina Bay Sands will not offer any seafood from the AVOID list of WWF’s Seafood Guide across its own F&B operations, which includes the popular red garoupa (a.k.a. coral trout) and blue fin tuna Marina Bay Sands currently procures 100% of its salmon, tilapia, prawns, mussels, lo
