Crab Factory, SS2

At the risk of oversharing (but you know, us media types, we overshare anyway), on one of my very first dates with someone from my past, he suggested we go to one of these seafood places where you eat with your hands. He claimed that he would still like me despite watching me go full savage on the food. Also, he said it would be rather amusing to watch foodievstheworld get "her" hands dirty. Let's just say that it didn't work out too well. So, since then, I was hesitant to go to these seafood places... But when we got the invitation to go to Crab Factory to try out their seafood, it had been six months since my quirky date and I had started dating someone else. And I had a crazy craving for

Johnnie Walker x Auntie Sim's CNY Special

If it's anything Chinese people love more than the CNY holiday, it's the food (and alcohol) that comes with it. That is why Johnnie Walker has paired up with Auntie Sim's to offer diners the perfect combination of the two. This CNY, Johnnie Walker is introducing a specially selected Lunar New Year set menu paired with its Gold Label Reserve. Going to the event I wasn't quite sure what to expect, I've heard of wine pairings, and more recently, tea pairings, but very rarely, whiskey pairings and much less with Chinese food. It is only when the wonderful chef owner, Auntie Sim explained that she believed her specially curated Teo Chew menu would go well not just with the typical cognac (the dri

GinRikSha, Bukit Damansara

Indian fusion food has been gaining popularity in recent times, what with porky Indian food and all... and now, there is GinRikSha's incredible spread of tantalising cuisine mixed with a cool, modern ambience right in the heart of Bukit Damansara. It's a pretty brave move to open so close to Aliyaa too, a neighbourhood favourite for Sri Lankan food just one row behind. But if it's one restaurant that can prove to be a decent contender, it would be GinRikSha. I love the cool interior that makes it perfect for a nice night out with friends or family. Of course, the more the merrier when it comes to Indian food. I would recommend you start off with the pop corn tempura (RM12). Corn deep fried i

Or spoil the family with special set menus that start at RM1,988++ for ten. For the Fortune menu, which is the slightly more expensive set menu, you'd be getting a mouth-wateringly good yee sang with Hokkaido scallop, north Canadian lobster claw drizzled wi

Bao Culture Food & Drinks, Penang

Bao Culture Food & Drinks is located in a new area in Penang - the Auto Mall. You can admire beautiful cars as well as the coastline from the cafe and it is one of the best spots in Penang for sunsets. You can even cycle here and park at their bicycle parking lots (which is what we did!). The interior of the shop is decorated in a quirky manner with a container unit housing their kitchen and another makeshift food truck to serve drinks and take orders out of. It is technically located on the mezzanine floor and each shop unit is separated by thin walls. This also means little renovations can be done to the place. But that doesn't stop the shops from being creative with their space. Because o

Metisser Patisserie & Tea Room, Penang

Penang is more than just the char kuey teows and assam laksas... Really. I mean, you can get equally good ones in KL nowadays. So whenever I head up to Penang, I am on the hunt for new hipster cafes and other dining experiences I may not be able to get in KL. A quick search brought my tired feet to Metisser Patisserie. Tired because we had decided to bring out bikes up to Penang for a ride around the island. And boy, was it a good idea! After eating at so many different places during our short 3 day trip, we needed to burn off the calories somehow! At Metisser Patisserie, its clean aesthetic and airiness gives it a very classy feel and I immediately felt out of place in my shorts and t-shirt
